Criterion offers traditional Japanese garment
Criterion is pleased to present a stunning example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship in our upcoming sale: a beautifully preserved uchikake wedding kimono. This exquisite garment, measuring 190cm by 135cm, is a shining example of traditional Japanese bridal attire.
Crafted from luxurious silk and satin, this uchikake features intricate embroidery depicting cranes in flight and chrysanthemums, both of which hold deep symbolic meaning in Japanese culture. Cranes, often associated with longevity and happiness, are considered auspicious symbols, making them a fairly common motif for wedding attire. The chrysanthemums, emblematic of rejuvenation and imperial status, further enhance the garment's cultural resonance.
This uchikake, and many other lots, are live now in our current Islington sale, which closes from 7pm on Monday, September 2nd.
