Consignment Decision

We understand that busy working lives and a lack of transport, not everyone is able to attend our salerooms, so we provide valuations online.

Our highly experienced valuations team cover a wide range of specialist categories. Whether you are interested in consigning items to an upcoming specialist auction, or you have another collection that you would like to consign, we are here to help.

Simply take some photographs of the items, give a brief description of them and email to us, and one of our valuers will get back to you with an estimate and whether they would be suitable for auction and how you might wish to proceed.

Vendor Charges

Our basic charges are based upon two elements:

1.  a fixed entry fee of £6 (inc VAT) plus damage loss waiver cover of 2.4% (inc VAT subject to a minimum of £2.40 inc VAT) per lot per sale, and

2.  a sales (Vendors) commission of 18% (inc VAT) of the hammer price per lot.  (subject to a minimum commission of £18 inc VAT)

Entry fees and insurance are charged per sale per lot whether the lot sells or not.  Commissions are only charged on sold lots.

Total net charges will ultimately depend on average values and saleability. NB Therefore, where values are low, returns may drop below 50% of hammer.

All consignments are entered in to a minimum of 3 sales back to back if they do not sell in the first sale.

Unsolds will automatically be re-offered in to the next sale with a reduction of 20% week 2 and 30% week 3.

Any item(s) unsold after 3 sales will be automatically reoffered for a 4th and 5th week until sold.

BE AWARE - Upon completion of 3 weekly sales (or monthly if our Bath saleroom) vendors are asked to collect their unsold items within one week of the last sale to avoid storage charges.  An extract of the relevant clause in our terms and conditions is below for further clarification.

1.7. Storage Fees for Buyers will be applied after one week of FREE storage. Late collection will incur storage fees of £5 per Lot per day for all items. All Vendor Lots not entered for sale must be collected by the following Wednesday 6pm unless by prior arrangement with the Auctioneer. Both Buyers and Vendors Lots not collected after the storage period allowed will incur storage fees of £5 per Lot per day. If Storage fees amount in value to more than the value of the Lots purchase price and or the low estimate the Auctioneer will take immediate ownership of the Lot(s) to recover the Storage Fees and be at liberty to resell the items to recover the fees under its own name;

25 (b),  to store the Lot at the Auctioneer’s premises or elsewhere and to release the Lot to the Buyer only after payment in full of the purchase price together with any other fees due. The Auctioneer reserves the right to resell the lot(s) if not collected within the time frame agreed with the Auctioneer at the time of bidding prior to the sale closing and after 7 days following the sale irrespective of whether the invoice has been paid for.  Furthermore, a storage charge of £5 per Lot per day for items or Lots not collected by the 1st Wednesday 6pm after the sale or by the time specified in writing from the Auctioneer together with any removal expenses. In addition, interest will be charged at 2.5% per month or part thereof (34.4% APR) on any accounts that remain unpaid in part or full after Wednesday 6pm after the sale. Interest and storage will be charged from the date of sale. In addition, the Buyer shall be liable for all legal and court costs incurred by the Auctioneers in pursuit of payment from the Buyer. The Auctioneer reserves the right to refuse any cheques and will not release Lots purchased until evidence has been received that any cheque or other payment method accepted has been cleared.

Criterion has limited space to store items for long periods of time and hence it relies on its clients to adhere to these terms and conditions of business and storage.
